关于思想的演讲（英文）

I used to spread environmental awareness to fellow students by making
brochures, Webpages and other projects. Now my subject of promotion has
changed. I spread “censorship” awareness in China, mostly to the Chinese
people I know. Rather than print media or the Internet, I spread the awareness
by spoken word, informing them about human rights issues of which most people
are ignorant to at best and indifferent to at worst. I stress the importance
of the public’s attention to these issues.
The reason this is necessary is due to the restriction of freedom of public
speech. I cannot express my views on censorship on a large scale, because it
will be censored. In attempt address this problem, I am restricted by the
problem itself.
Even though communicating one-by-one is time-consuming, it is most gratifying
when I see the sparks of thought within each dialogue: people would call past
values into question and start doubt views which were taken for granted. This
is a process I do not often observe when I promoted issues by other mediums. I
believe this is the difference I am establishing for my community: I am not
only informing people of information they cannot access, I believe I can lead
them towards independent thinking, remind them to re-evaluate their knowledge
and to think for themselves. Free-thinking is extremely undermined within the
Chinese education and society. I feel obligated to do something about it. AS
BERGEN EVANS ONCE SAID
Freedom of speech and freedom of action are meaningless without freedom to
think.
There is no freedom of thought without doubt.
